Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Installed Maverick Alpha 3 Kubuntu from the AMD64 DVD iso image. I performed an OEM install, and after rebooting, there was no menu bar at the bottom of the screen. (See attached screenshot).

I had to hunt for the OEM-Config tool to click that so it would run on next reboot. I had to search for the term "reboot" to reboot the machine.

Once I re-booted, I ran through the new-owner setup, logged in via KDM, and again got the same desktop as seen in the attached screenshot.

Added screenshot, but I know what's happened now.

My OEM install via DVD went directly for plasma-netbook. All my other Kubuntu 64bit installs from CD image (and from DVD, IIRC) used plasma-desktop.

I'm running this in a VBox vm, using the SAME VM with the same disk file for every install test.

Virtualbox has a screen size small enough to trigger netbook mode, not much to be done here. (It won't affect real systems)

Making this a dupilcate... there IS an issue. Yes, I am seeing this because netbook is installed, however, it appears that OEM installs are installing netbook regardless...

This was according to a discussion with Riddell on #ubuntu-testing this morning. So leaving as invalid, but marking as duplicate of the OEM bug.
