Binary package hint: binutils

Doing an upgrade from lucid to maverick ('sudo do-release-upgrade -d') triggered apport due to a failed dpkg.

I saw a python ImportError at the time: "no module named gi"

Looks like the ImportError was unrelated; I get the same symlink conflict from and apt-get -f install:

Thanks for your report. This is fixed in hardening-wrapper 1.29 (bug 596136) and I confirm that it is fixed in maverick.
But we need to test the upgrade from Lucid to Maverick
the conflict appears in apt.log but the package is held during the upgrade

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 613774 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
