Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
Installing from USB stick, created using usb-creator and an ISO which has been verified okay (successfully used to burn a CD and install from that in the past).
Install refuses to proceed past configuring partitions - error is the same regardless of choosing any of the available partition configuration options (install alongside, use whole disk, manual partitions).
From /var/log/partman, repeated:
/bin/partman: IN: PARTITIONS =dev=sda
parted_server: Read command: PARTITIONS
parted_server: command_
parted_server: Opening outfifo
parted_server: OUT: OK
parted_server: OUT: 1 1048576-
parted_server: OUT: 5 981850914816-
parted_server: Partitions printed
parted_server: OUT:
parted_server: Closing infifo and outfifo
parted_server: main_loop: iteration 120
parted_server: Opening infifo
(END)
*** THIS BEARS NO RELATION TO MY PARTITIONING SYSTEM, NEITHER CURRENT NOR REQUESTED. ***
Here's what I actually have (and would like to keep):
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda
Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000969bc
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 13055 104864256 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 13056 39164 209720542+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 39165 39948 6297480 83 Linux
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$
Why does parted think I have sda1 and sda5? No wonder it keeps crashing, it's on a different planet. This disk has never had a logical partition created on it, ever.
/var/log/syslog has a lot of this in it:
Aug 2 20:42:16 ubuntu ubiquity[3717]: Device /dev/sda1 not found in os-prober output
Aug 2 20:42:16 ubuntu ubiquity[3717]: Device /dev/sda2 not found in os-prober output

...and so on. That seems to know that sda1/2/3 are the correct partitions, but also seems unhappy about them.
I see a few error reports for an error code 141 during partman, then the code 10 error after that. I didn't get the 141 error, everything went fine up until it threw the code 10 error.
I'm unlikely to preserve any of the evidence here, so hopefully the above has enough to be getting on with. I'm off to try and figure out some other way to install on this system... install 9.x and then upgrade maybe.
