Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

The system freezes just after the system has loaded, the dots all fully coloured (just before the login screen is shown). If the splash is off, it freezes just after 'setting sensors limits', although this has nothing to do with the problem, as even with lm-sensors removed it still freezes at this time. Hardware: Eee Pc 1001HA

I think it may have something to do with the wifi dkms driver for my Ralink RT3090 wifi chip, but am not sure whether or not this is really the problem.

Please also note:

The freezing still happens when compiz is turned off.
The dkms driver is from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~markus-tisoft/+archive/rt3090/+packages

Joshua, if you think it may have something to do with the RT3090 driver from Marcus, try uninstalling it and instead use the rt3090 staging driver built in to the Lucid kernel. You'll need to run a command first to create an empty missing config file -- see comments near the top of bug #541620.

Thanks for the suggestion Gary but i've tried that and it has the same effect. I've even tried the maverick beta with out of the box wifi and it still freezes :(

Turns out that this was due to a hardware networking fault (wifi problems occured on windows xp also). Bug can be closed.

Also, no other Ubuntu users using this eeepc on ubuntu 10.10 experienced this.
