LaTeX formula "effect" doesn't work

Bug Description

I have only tried this on my laptop thus far. Using Effects->Render->LaTeX Formula results in the computer being busy for a couple of seconds, then not outputting anything.

I get the following on the commandline from which I ran inkscape:

(inkscape:31654): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_utf8_collate: assertion `str2 != NULL' failed
Extension::Script: Unknown error for pclose
: Success

This feature appearas to be new to version 0.44, so the bug must be for edgy, as dapper is running 0.43.

It is indeed in Edgy. Did I mess up? I thought that when clicking on the Edgy package version it would report a bug specifically for that version...
