mail-notification Gmail accounts do not use the IMAP IDLE extension

Bug Description

Gmail accounts should detect if the user has enabled IMAP access to their mail and, if so, use the IMAP IDLE extension instead of polling for new mail. This could mitigate the problem described in bug #165053.

A workaround is to set up the mailbox as IMAP rather than gmail in mail-notification.

Is there any advantage to configuring a mailbox as gmail? I don't see any, but somebody must have had a reason to add gmail-specific support to mail-notification, so maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks Aaron. Setting Gmail up manually as IMAP works very well.

FWIW there are some Gmail-specific IMAP limitations, as detailed here [1], but it seems to work fine for me with mail-notification.
