Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Since updating Firefox to version 3.6.7, Adobe's Flash plugin no longer works. Browsing to any page which uses flash, be it ads or video, results in a grey box appearing where the Flash container would be with the message:

"The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."

The plugin worked properly prior to the update and presists through reboots. The Flash plugin continues to work in other web browsers, such as Opera.

This happens on Ubuntu 9.10, using the new Firefox 3.6.7 package. Flash version 10.1 r53

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 609525

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Seems there was a problem with the way Firefox was handling the Adobe Flash plugin. I disabled the Flash plugin (tools->addons->plugins) and I was still seeing the Flash error messages. This continued to happen after changing Firefox versions (to 3.6.6 and 3.6.8).

My solution was to remove the Flash plugin and then manually remove the Flash files from ~/.mozilla/plugins/

I think re-installed Flash using Synaptic. This fixed the problem.
