Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

I'm filing this bug as per request by Didier Roche. Yelp gives a "Could not initialise gecko!" error in terminal when I try to run it. This all came about as I was trying to run the quickly tutorial. Please refer to bug #607830 for that

I have the same problem for a couple of days. Reinstalling yelp or xulrunner-1.9.2 or -1.9.3-dbg didn't help. Also there is no "compreg.dat" in /usr/lib/xulrunner*, which is good, as this was mentioned as cause in previous bug reports for yelps very helpful error message.

Haven't diagnosed the issue, but I have my suspicion that it stopped working ca. three days ago. From my /var/cache/apt/:

Todays update (xulrunner-1.9.2_1.9.2.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1_amd64.deb) didn't help.

A recent update seems to have fixed this for me

I now believe this bug was caused by a conflict with a non-standard package. I had the Firefox-4-daily ppa and FF4 installed, which brought it's own xulrunner (-2.0 and -1.9.3 transitional), which mostly likely have caused this. Just uninstalled both, and gecko-based yelp started working again. -> CLOSE
