$ grub-mkrescue --output=myrescue.iso

$ sudo apt-get install xorriso

$ grub-mkrescue --output=myrescue.iso

I just looked, this is mentioned as a suggests, but not a depends, and grub-mkrescue is not going to function without it.

I don't plan to upgrade this to a depends, sorry; it's too heavyweight
for grub-common. See http://bugs.debian.org/589532 for background, and
compare the approach taken by devscripts.

i ran into this issue just now. if you don't want to add a dependency, then how about a more direct error message from grub-mkrescue, saying that this particular utility requires that xorriso be installed?
