update-manager does not honor proxy setting changes

Bug Description
update-manager fails to honor proxy settings in the following setting.
Login to gnome under proxy setting A at work where update-manager works. Now suspend and wake-up from sleep at home. Change proxy settings to direct connection to internet using gnome Network Proxy and apply changes globally. update-manager does not pick up the new settings.
Other applications like rhythmbox, firefox etc work correctly.
I can help debug this issue if someone can provide me with instructions.
