update manager doesn't update xserver packages & nvidia from 10.04 to 10.10 alpha2

updated 10.04 to 10.10 alpha.Had to manually edit xorg.conf to get gdm running.synaptic says

Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>=2:1.8) but 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu8~lp539772 is to be installed when tried to update xserver-xorg
and

xserver-xorg-core:
 Breaks: xserver-xorg-input-7
  Breaks: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (<=1.2.2-1ubuntu4) but 1.2.2-1ubuntu4 is to be installed
  Breaks: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (<=1:12.6.5-4ubuntu2) but 1:12.6.5-4ubuntu2 is to be installed
 Breaks: xserver-xorg-video-6

so on.

these are not installed

reinstalled them
 then updated to 10.10 now all seems fixed

either that purge thing or new updates to alt installer cd fied it..not sure which one..
