Time zone & locale should also affect Gnome time applet 12/24 preference

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this report.

I noticed after freshly installing from the Live CD 6.06 i386 installer CD that while the time zone in the Gnome time applet was correct, it was still displaying 12h AM/PM. For Europe/Helsinki, the correct choice whould be 24h display; I expect this will also affect other locales which prefer 24h.

FWIW, this seems very similar to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320156 , although in en_GB (at least) I have a 12 hour clock option, and am/pm do now show, but back last year when I raised the gnome bug they didn't appear...

Oh yes, there's also this bozotic locale bug from 6.06 which ends up selecting "no particular locale but if you have to have one, let's just say Australia". So /etc/apt/sources.list had the .au mirror (changed by hand now that I noticed) and /etc/environment contains this:

The bug involving selecting the first country in the list (Australia in this case) has been fixed. I think it's likely that the root bug is still here, though; after all, how should the GNOME time applet know what time format to use if not from a valid locale setting, which en_FI[.UTF-8] isn't?
