Bug Description

[Problem]
On an otherwise successful resume from hibernate, ubuntu leaves the screen blank, giving the perception that it has not finished or has broken.

[Detail]
I've tested this on several different laptops, including a Dell Mini 10v and Dell Latitude XT2, and suspect it to be a general behavioral issue rather than a hardware-specific issue. However, I've attached bug data for XT2 for reference.

Doing a hibernate seems to work properly, showing bios and blinking cursor. At some point it completes, but the screen is blanked at this point. This strongly resembles some failure modes for resume from hibernate, giving the user an impression that it has failed when it hasn't. The blank screen also is not easily distinguishable from the bootup process (which might have a blinking cursor but otherwise is a black screen), so the user is not properly cued when resume has completed.

I seem to recall that the reason for blanking the screen had to do with hiding some ugliness that would appear during resume. If this is the case, perhaps the screen could be left black and a timer set to unblank it a second or two after resume was finished.

I no longer have the XT2 but tested on a Latitude13 and found it unblanks the screen on resume from hibernate in Precise.

Sarvatt suggests this is fixed in general now.

Given there are no dupes, no one affected, nor any comments from anyone but myself, I'm going to assume there is no further interest beyond mine and close the bug out at this time. As I upgrade other hardware if I find the problem still exists I'll file a new bug report.

Oh I should note that previously I was relying on the menu and power daemon to perform hibernate, but these options seem to no longer be available in Precise, so I tested by calling sudo pm-hibernate directly. In case that makes any difference.
