Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

New install of ltsp using Lucid 10.04. I can logon to the server itself okay. When I try to login from a booted thin client, I got the login screen, and can enter a username and password. It *appears* to let me login (I see the beginnings of a purple desktop background), but them am kicked back into the login window.

The following command from someone in IRC helped me solve the issue:

sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager metacity

(all one line)

The output from lspci related to video is:

01:0c.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage XL (rev 27)

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks a bunch in advance,

Marc

Thanks for your bug report. Is this still an issue with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal? May you please check and comment back? Thanks in advance!.

Thanks for the followup. Once I ran the commands I outlined above, it worked beautifully. We have been very happy with it. I haven't upgraded to Natty for our LTSP installations, and do not plan to do so. I'll stay with the LTS install until the next LTS version comes in April of 2012.
