OpenOffice does not open word documents

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

OpenOffice Word Processor doesn't open word files allthough Nautilus recognizes that the file is a word document. If I add .doc at the filename it works. But doing that for all my old files I worked with on my Apple is a headache. How to better solve this and why does'nt it work anyway? I use:
