When upgrading from version 2.6.15-26.46 to 2.6.15-26.47 of linux-image-
The reason was that the proprietatry nvidia driver nvidia.ko found in linux-restricte
failed to load with the following error messgaes in the kernel log:

nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol boot_cpu_data
nvidia: Unknown symbol boot_cpu_data

This morning when I installed the Kernel Upgrade for version 2.6.15-26.47-k7, I started having exactly the same problem.
There is no way the Nvidia driver will load, and you end up with a blank screen. After doing a "dmesg" appears the same as above:
--------
nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol boot_cpu_data
nvidia: Unknown symbol boot_cpu_data
nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol boot_cpu_data
nvidia: Unknown symbol boot_cpu_data
--------
I had to manually change the "/etc/X11/ xorg.conf" file, in the section of the driver, from "nvidia" to "nv", to be able to start the X Server.
When I saw this bug i guessed i'm not the only one with this problem, so maybe it's not my fault for a misconfiguration.
