desktop CD-ROM checker shows no text

With the current (20060914) powerpc desktop CD, 'check' starts into usplash, and the only visual feedback is the progress bar going back and forth, there is no text whatsoever. After spinning around for about five minutes, usplash is replaced by a black screen with two kernel boot message lines (which are absolutely normal on this system) and then just sits around forever.

Thus (1) I do not have an idea whether the check succeeded or failed and (2) it does not reboot automatically. Due to (1) I cannot say whether the check was actually meant to happen after usplash, so leave the bug title blurry for now.

Tollef asked me whether pressing enter in the black screen helps: it does not. I can type characters (and see them echoed on the console), Enter even produces a line break, but nothing helps to reboot/shutdown (Ctrl+D, Ctrl+C, Enter, etc.)

(20060927) The blank screen happens with i386 as well. During the check, there is text showing each file being checked. Immediately after it finishes the check the screen clears. It can be typed into (and echos back). No other VTs can be switched to, and SysRq will display help, but will not display tasks or memory. SysRq-B does reboot, though.

One note about the progress bar: it seems to only cycle through the first 5% or so.

Ignore prior report on 20060927 image: I had followed bad links to an early edgy ISO; it was not a current build.

Please ignore prior comment. 20060927.2 Desktop CD i386 shows similar behavior: check shows no text, progress bar does not move. After it "finishes", a blank screen is shown which eventually loads the LiveCD.

This works fine now on ppc/live 20060928.2. Thanks to whoever fixed it!
