Bug Description

This bug happens after updating Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04
The shutdown button is frequently not available.
The Computer hangs at logon screen during shutdown, in this situation no terminal is available.
If I open a terminal within the session I can shutdown with "shutdown now -P"

A 2nd failure happens sometimes: additional drives cannot be mounted (USB drive or HD)

The Ubuntu 10.04 installed on my 8GB-Stick shows the same problems, but only on my DELL computer.
Therefore I believe that this bug has something to do with my hardware but otherwise 9.10 had worked properly!

Maybe this issue is related to plymouth package, Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information.

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

For your second problem please fill a new report, Thanks!

Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. In order to determine if this issue is plymouth related, please boot your computer with plymouth disabled and then shutdown to see if you can reproduce the issue? To disable plymouth for a single boot, follow these steps:

1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press "e" to edit it.
3. Select the "linux" line and at the end of the line, remove "splash" and "quiet".
5. Type "ctrl + x" to boot the custom boot line.

thanks for your bug reply. But since the last kernel update 2.6.32-23
and the following actualisation the shutdown behavior is all o.k.

Thanks Wolfgang

!!!
But in beween the errors happen again in the same way. The shutdown
button is nearly always available but the menu is not always complete.
See the difference between the screen shots of shut down menu. Both
errors shutdown and mounting of additional drives happens in the same
session.

I send you the actual log files of the sys directory, screen shots, and
the hardware error tests

Aug 12 09:40 started with the error
Aug 12 10:18 Start was o.k.

after removing "splash" and "quiet" in the menu.lst error happens again!

Sorry no! Meanwhile I installed UBUNTU 10.10 64Bit on my desktop and it
works properly. Occasional I use my Stick with UBUNTU 10.04 32Bit and it
shows still the same errors. This error happens more frequently if I
boot UBUNTU after booting from a different boot device.

Best regards
Wolfgang

I don't know it anymore because I work now with the 64Bit Version of
maverick. My last test with 32Bit-Ubuntu 10.04.1 and kernel 2.6.32-25
failed again and again.
Cheers
