I have just tried in latest edgy and it works. It certainly worked in dapper. What version do you run?

Same story. I had just updated XFCE up to 4.4 and xfce-battery plugin began crashing.

The same effect happens to me. I just upgraded from Dapper to Edgy, and in doing so, from Xfce RC2 to 4.4.0 (final release). If I try to add the battery plugin to the panel, the icon will appear, but as soon as I move my mouse cursor over the panel, the icon will disappear (I assume this means that it crashed). I have attached the crash file here.
