Well, as far as I know Debian has a dependency on gstreamer and we don't. I have this on my todo for the next weeks.

Ahh... Sorry, I now see your reasoning in bug 559906. I was under the impression that Debian was correct judging by the upstream docs.

As you say in that report, depending on "phonon-backend-gstreamer | phonon-backend" does not work, because phonon itself prefers the xine backend. It seems that needs to be addressed in the libxine package. It should probably depend on "phonon-backend | phonon-backend-xine" not the other way around.

Also, why do you suggest that the codecs must be installed by the user themselves? It seems that a youtube client should certainly depend on the codecs, it's fairly useless with out them. Perhaps "gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg | libxine1-ffmpeg" depending on how the first issue is resolved? Neither are in multiverse/restricted if that's your concern.

It's currently in suggests, because gstreamer users do not need it. I am still not sure, what's the best way to deal with it and I will email upstram and Debian maintainer in the next days. Sorry for the delay, real life was more important.
