Bug Description

Binary package hint: shotwell

I'm on ubuntu 10.04 and I use the yorba ppa to update my shotwell installation so I'm using the latest version.

Everytime I click on a link in my places folder or a shortcut I place elsewhere to folders such as Documents, Pictures, Music, etc. Shotwell will open up instead of my file browser.

So far, the only one that hasn't messed up a shortcut to my home folder.

I have a shortcut to my folders on AvantWindowNavigator and at first I thought that was the problem. But it happens on my Places links as well.

Uninstalling shotwell fixes the problem, but I'm not sure what else can be done about it.

I can't reproduce this. I tried installing Shotwell 0.6.1 from the Yorba PPA on Ubuntu 10.04. When I choose folders from the Places menu or I click on shortcuts to folders, Nautilus opens those folders normally.

Is there a way for me to open it in a terminal and see what processes occur when I open those folders? I'd like help to be able to diagnose what the issue

@Sebastian: yes, it does help. Open the file ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list in an editor:

gedit ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Remove the last line that says "inode/directory=shotwell.desktop;" and save it. I'm not sure how that got in there but it's the source of the problem.

Then, if you can re-install Shotwell from the PPA, check that file again to make sure this line did not re-appear and report here whether it now works, that would be great.

Thanks

Bruno

Awesome. Thank you so much!

That fixed the issue. I reinstalled shotwell with no problems so far. The correct folders open up and shotwell stays put.
I have no idea either how that happened. I was wondering if it was something I did or not. But I guess it'll remain a mystery for now.

Anyway, thanks so much for helping me solve the problem.

For the record, same issue here with Maverick - same fix - same perplexed expression, since I don't know the cause.

Well this bug is not fixed in ubuntu 11.10 i did not have this problem in 11.04 but now after upgrade it exists. Shotwell opens instead of file browser in the following cases:
1. In downloads window of Mozilla Firefox when you right click on a file and choose "open containing folder"
2. In archive manager after file extraction when you click on "show the files"
3. when you connect a camera and choose "open folder"
