Bug Description

OS: Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04
HW: Samsung Netbook (N150)

after update to latest kernel image (2.6.32-23-generic) brightness control and even the wireless button and CPU Fan did not work as before.
I´m not sure if the kernel update really was the reason for this, there was a lot of stuff updated as well (using package manager), but this is what I would mention.

If I open the Samsung-tools-preferences, the wireless button and the CPU Fan button are gray (None) and I´m not able to edit them.

Okay, it is the kernel update:
switch back to kernel version 2.6.32-22-generic fixes the problem temporary

The problem is caused by the DKMS-enabled packages available on the repository, namely 'samsung-backlight', 'easy-slow-down-manager' and 'phc-intel'. These packages should automatically rebuilt themself against a new installed kernel, but for some reason they don't.

I'll take a deeper look at them as soon as I can; in the meanwhile you can fix the problem by forcing their reinstallation.

Use a command like this to reinstall them, then reboot:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall samsung-backlight easy-slow-down-manager phc-intel

Changed in samsung-tools:
status: New → Invalid

Thanks for the fast support, backlight control works fin again now.
I also reinstalled samsung-wireless, samsung-tools (not sure if necessary) and installed new package smasung-wireless-2.6.32-23 (also not sure if necessary). phc-intel was not installed at my system before but installed this anyway.

Note:
you have to reconfigure Hotkeys for CPU-FAN and wireless card, using samsung-tools-preferences

Been having the same problems here with my Samsung netbook (model NB30). I have tried the recommendation in comment #2 i.e. "sudo apt-get install --reinstall samsung-backlight easy-slow-down-manager phc-intel"

Have got to reboot yet. Hopefully that will solve the problems on the Samsung NB30. I've also had problems with the wireless that stops working sometimes.
