Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

I'm using Maverick. The new mono status icons for Empathy do not allow me (with mild colour blindness) to distinguish between online/away/offline etc. friends. I suggest either switching back to the old icons or drawing the respective symbols in a dark colour on the icon instead of white. If any more information is needed, I will happily provide it.

Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. This is a bug for ubuntu-mono and Omer took care of marking as such. I'm invalidating the empathy task since this is only a mono issue. This is also a wishlist since having the mono icons there are as designed, therefore marking as such.

Marking as triaged, since Ubuntu maintains the mono package.

Perhaps a screenshot pointing out the visual errors would be helpful to the devs.

empathy changed the code

#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_HIDDEN "user-invisible"
#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_AVAILABLE "user-available"
#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_BUSY "user-busy"
#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_AWAY "user-away"
#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_EXT_AWAY "user-extended-away"
#define EMPATHY_IMAGE_IDLE "user-idle"

before it was:
empathy-invisible
empathy-available
.....

anyway instead of using the transparent color to draw the symbols
inside the bubble, a solid dark color could be used.

Aren't those icons intended to be used on dark backgrounds, not white? Empathy's background color should either match the one of the panel or use the dark versions of the icons.

I don't remember when this was fixed, but Empathy has long switched back to using color status icons, and the messaging menu now uses color status icons too.
