Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.

DpkgTerminalLog.gz shows that the /etc/mysql/my.cnf and
/etc/mysql/debian-start files do not exist. Did you
previously have these in a different location (i.e.
specified in /etc/init.d/mysql)? Do you have backups?

I notice a similar report from last year at:
