Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

On starting up Firefox in the morning, with say 15-20 tabs in the session, sometimes - more frequently lately - the package freezes, the loading symbols freeze on each tab, and nothing further occurs unless firefox is closed and restarted. This morning it took 4 goes to get it working.

This has only started happening in the last couple of versions. Previously I was able to load up to 50 tabs without problems (when tabkit still worked). It doesn't seem to matter whether I have more than 1 window open (i generally run radio 4 in a separate window).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, according to this report, you are not using the most recent version of this package for your Ubuntu release (3.6.6). Please upgrade to the most recent version and let us know if you are still having this issue. Thanks in advance.

With Ubuntu upgrades, you get what is delivered. But as it happens about an hour after I read your reply we got an update to Firefox, but I have to report that this morning the same problem recurred, so it doesn't seem to have been fixed in the new version.

Another thing I've noticed, which may or may not be connected is that sometimes when you start firefox up successfully, the facility to pick answers from a dropdown list is not present. So you have to close it and reload to get that working. This used only to happen if you opened Firefox by clicking on a link in Tweetdeck, but as I have learnt and never do that any more until Firefox is open, seems to have spread...

Sorry I guess I should say the dropdown thing is when you're filling in forms.

And the new version details: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.6 GTB7.1

Thank you for the update. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

Alternatively, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode which will disable all the extensions and let you test if it's an extension that's conflicting:
firefox -safe-mode

I am still getting the problem. I can't start a new profile, as I would not want to lose all the extensions, and most importantly, my bookmarks.

I did disable all the extensions, and it all worked fine, then i reenabled the essential ones, and it still seemed ok. Then i realized i had not turned fireftp back on. Immediately, the problem recurred.
