Bug Description

HP Deskjet D2663 with hplip 3.10.5 on Ubuntu 10.04

When I try to print with the "best quality" settings (which means printing on "photo paper" or "hp photo paper" with "High-Resolution Photo" quality) I get a cropped version of a double-sized picture with very dull colours and vertical purple stripes right on the image.

Trying to print directly from HP Monitor makes the printer flash all its lights until I turn it off.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Here you can see scans of 2 pictures; one printed with Normal quality (to the right) and another printed with High-Resolution Photo.

I've got exactly the same problem.

The printer I'm using is a HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One with HPLIP 3.10.6.15 drivers on Linux 2.6.32.19-163.fc12.i686.PAE Fedora 12.
On Fedora 6, I got much more printing options then I get now. Now I can't even choose the DPI.

When I choose "High resolution photo" quality, it prints (at relative fast speeds, too fast too print photo quality,) a black image with here and there some purple colours with clearly visible horizontal lines (=> photo print should actually avoid this by printing slower). The output is vertically 2x stretched and when I print a PDF document of exactly 1 page, it prints until the bottom (because of the vertical stretch, the output contains only half the contents of the PDF document) and then it waits for a certain time until it "ejects" the printed paper. This time equals about the time it takes to print the other half of the document.

This bug doesn't seem to be hot, although it should REALLY be, so please, someone examine this bug...
