Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

I have usplash 0.4-23 install with the kubuntu-artwork-usplash.
There is a bootsplash at bootup but there isn't one at shutdown

My interpretation is that usplash has a hardcoded bootsplash resolution and the shutdown splash tries to use a lower res so it doesn't appear.

Confirmed with 0.4-29.

I should however note that one may only get a glimpse of the usplash towards the end of the procedure of shutdown/reboot.

The shutdown usplash uses /etc/usplash.conf as well correct? I had a period where I didn't have a usplash display as well when shutting down, however, my computer would go into a sleep state almost, and wouldn't shutdown. I take it your shutdown is normal, just without a usplash?

Yes, normal shutdown ( Not hibernate ) just without usplash.

In any case, I will be doing a format and a new install using the recently kubuntu beta CD sometime tomorrow. Maybe a fresh installation with a fresh configuration will help figure things out.

Fresh install of Kubuntu Edgy Eft Beta 1 on Notebook (1400x1050).

 I haven't the bootsplash.
On the grub line I have somethings like that
/boot..........................root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet splash

I've try to set some vga=(800x600, ecc) but the bootsplash doesn't work.

How to change bootsplash for own?

As I know that we need follow the below step

"make a pnp file --> account .c file ---> account .so file ---> modify menu.list"

Right?

Would you tell me more detail?

ex:
How much pdi for the pnp file ?
How to account .c file ?
How to account .so file ?
