Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

1- Release:
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
2- Package:
empathy:
  Installed: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.30.0.1-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
3- I expected for empathy to connect to the msn network
4- Instead I get an "Network error" message or a busy icon at the "Messaging and voip accounts" window with the "Connecting..." message.
I have been getting this message for over 24h.
[edit]
After restarting I noticed that msn was working and aim was not. I disabled my aim account and empathy connected just fine. I disabled my msn account and enabled aim and it connected.

if you want to connect to hotmail you have to use your hotmail ID. using your gmail ID for hotmail does not work.

Thats actually my live ID account, I have associated my preexisting email(...@gmail.com) to it.
It works on windows live messenger.

I can confirm this, however I am unable to connect to either regardless of what is enabled and disabled. I simply cannot get MSN or AIM to connect. I simply get a network error, and if I try and click reconnect it instantly returns the network error, it doesn't appear that it is even attempting to connect at all.

Now it doesn't connect to either network(only gtalk, google ftw).
I'll try to restart and see what happens.

Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please attach telepathy-butterfly logs as well as telepathy-haze logs so we can look into what's exactly causing the issue for you.

The preceding logs represent the protocol managers working(all of them at the same time).
The only difference between this and my previous experiences is that I started both butterfly and haze from console.
1 - Next I put my laptop to sleep.
2 - After "waking it up", I saw both managers failing to connect as usual.
3 - I tried switching one manager on while keeping the other of with both haze and butterfly without results.
4 - Finally I tried to debug again starting with butterfly. This time the manager wasn't able to connect.
5 - Then I tried logging haze with butterfly running and this time he did connect right away. Butterfly kept failing.
6 - This time I left butterfly running while I switched off haze. Butterfly connected.
7 - Switched off butterfly
What I am attaching is the log of those events by the butterfly manager.

The bug is specific to this wireless that I'm using. On other networks all the clients work normally
