Bug Description

suggestion: addition of "target folder" field to Shutter v0.86.2 > edit > preferences > Upload [tab] > File Transfer Protocol (FTP) [entry fields]

Some FTP sites do not allow users to change into the desired user folder directly from the data put into the URI field.
Rather, they require users to enter the base URI, login, and then change directory.
Typical failure messages state: "FAILED: Cannot change working directory."

Do you know any specific FTP-server / FTP-site that behaves like that? Would be helpful when testing...

Thanks. I'll checked Shutter's ftp code again. These are the steps:
1) Connect to the ftp server (host is used only)
2) Login
3) Change directory (path is used only)

There are some error details displayed when uploading fails, see:

What error is displayed in your case?

Thanks for your help.

Hm, I really don't know what to do here. I've tried several ftp servers and all of them are working. I've tried with '~' and without, no problem.

When you use nautilus to connect to the server, is there any [~username] folder in the root directory? Maybe the path is simple wrong?

sigh
i just tried entering a different upload directory that did NOt include my username
hostname/targetfolder
and it works perfectly.
( whereas hostname/username/targetfolder fails for me)

I am very sorry to have wasted your time. This is obviously a syntactic misunderstanding on my part, not a bug.

Perhaps this could be referenced in the documentation somewhere?
Specifically that the target host/folder may not need to include the username.

Please close this bug.

I probably should be clear that:

the fllowing works for http viewing but fails for ftp uploading
hostname/username/targetfolder

and this fails for http viewing but works for ftp uploading
hostname/targetfolder
