Thank you for submitting this bug and helping to improve Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If a new profile helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one. To disable extensions, Tools > Add-ons > Find the extension > Highlight and click 'Disable' > Restart Firefox

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

The add-on that is causing the problem is ubuntu firefox modifactions 0.9rc2. After I disabled this add-on, I can connect normally. The only other add-on I use is Adblock Plus with Easylist. I tried with AP on and off with Ubuntu mods on, no effect. I then turned it on and off with ubuntu mods off, and my laptop connected normally.

In addition, I connect my cable internet through a Dynex e-401 router.

Ok, more info.

While the ubuntu add-on causes me to lose ISP between Firefox restarts, when I restart my laptop I also lose my IP address. So maybe there is something in the start-up process that is affecting this as well.

There's a Firefox bug about Network Manager that appears to be related to my issue. And naturally, it's Ubuntu-specific.

Moving to ubufox since that seems to be causing the issue.

I did a complete reinstall and now this problem has gone away. Not sure what happened. I had used Computer Janitor on my broken install, so maybe that had deleted an important file.
