Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

After upgrading from Hardy Heron to Lucid Lynx, I cannot burn a data CD at all. I have not tried audio CD or DVDs. When I drag files and folders into the Nautilus CD burn window (burn:///), folders appear but files do not. In Brasero all appear. During the phase where Brasero estimates the size of the burn, dialogue boxes appear asking me such things as "Do you really want to include the file 'en' which has 7 child directories". It then goes on to explain that some operating systems won't be able to read the resulting CD but that Linux can. I have no file or folder called "en". Each time I try it comes up with a different file or folder name, which again does not exist. At some stage it asks me if I want long file names truncated for MS Windows compatibility. I answer Yes. Finally, when it is ready to burn a box appears asking me whether I really want to go ahead and burn a disc with filenames that are not Windows compatible. If I answer, Yes, go ahead, an error box appears saying an (unspecified) error occurred and that it is unable to burn the CD. It all worked fine in Hardy Heron. The hardware is exactly the same.

Thanks for your report, could you get a brasero log? please run brasero as: brasero --brasero-burn-debug --brasero-media-debug &> brasero-debug.txt ; perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting log file to the report, thanks.

It seems that the Brasero that comes with Lucid Lynx is unable to resolve certain directory structures and/or file names.

I finally managed to burn a data CD just containing my development website. The website contains only very conventional directory and file names.

Nevertheless, Brasero again prompted me asking if I really wanted to burn the directory "systems", which it told me had 7 child directories and that some operating systems other than Linux may not be able to read the CD in this case. The path of the directory called "systems" to which it was referring is as follows:

/home/rob/website/book/chap10/chap10_dev/economics/systems

The directory "systems" itself contains only 3 small HTML files with nothing fancy in them. "systems" is at the 6th level below the CD's "root".

I still can't make any sense of this as Hardy Heron had no problem burning any of my stuff.

Regards, Rob
