Bug Description

Hi all,

I am trying to install Kubuntu in my P4 machine using the Live CD. I created the partitions by myself (200 Gb). I get the following error:

Thank you in advance for your support.

I also have this error (also attaching logs) It happened at 78% in "Installing System" with 0:01 seconds of the "Copying Files" remaining.

Please file your own bug, jugg.

Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Hi all,

I apologise I could not log in before and could not tell you how I sorted it out.

I got the error during the installation phase and, as I said, I selected the size of each partition and created them. So while Kubuntu was installing, it crashed.

I applied Micros*ft solution: stop, abort installation and shut down. Then I started again with the installation, but this time I selected to use the already existing partitions (but formating the partitions againg). Everything went smooth, more than expected.

Just few words about my experience, I am wind*ws user since version 95. Now I am fed up and am trying to free myself --> I am suffering a lot, it is a path of pain. Nevertheless I think I will be free by the beginning of 2007...

Cheers

REMARK: LiveCD is the best way of installing linux, a simple SUCCESS.

Yeah - I had a similar experience to bremex and made the same assumption.

However, that is not the case. Once installed, many apps crashed randomly (volume-control was typically one of the first). The panel and desktop also crashed often.

Running "sudo aptitude update" caused segmentation faults 5/10 times.

I have reinstalled using the ubuntu 6.10 live and kubuntu 6.10 alternatce CD's.

I have switched back to Dapper, which will now not install after 5 attempts, crashing with the same error mentioned above.

I found a similar user on forums with the same issue, for both of us, the common factor seems to be AMD processor with ATI 9250 video cards.

OK, so we have three separate bug reports i this one of three possibly completely separate issues (the installer can crash for many reasons). Of these, only one has useful logs (from jugg) and that syslog has errors like:

ubuntu kernel: [17180685.000000] hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
ubuntu kernel: [17180685.000000] hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }

Which suggests a hardware error. Closing bug.
