Bug Description

Binary package hint: partman-base

Not sure if this should be considered a bug in partman or whatever is responsible for device naming, but on an HP Z600, with an Intel 82801 SATA RAID controller, the main device for me is /dev/mapper/isw_bjffiahcab_Volume0. Partman can create partitions inside this device, and they show up as /dev/mapper/isw_bjffiahcab_Volume0p{1..4}. However, partman tries to mount them using /dev/mapper/isw_bjffiahcab_Volume0{1..4} (note the missing 'p') and reports that it failed to create a partition.

It seems that either partman should be aware of the partition naming used by this device, or the partition device names should not include the 'p'.

This looks awfully like bug 568050. If you agree, there should be a parted update available in lucid-proposed in the not too distant future (I just need to get one of the other SRU team members to review it); could you perhaps test that once it's available, and follow up to that bug with results?

Yes. This looks like a dup of bug 568050, and I'll be happy to test a patch that shows up over there.
