Bug Description
Binary package hint: gzip
The gzip package in Lucid seems to contain a bug. When I'm (for example) doing kernel compilations, I get this error messages:
=======
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
...
=======
I solved the problem by installing the gzip package from ubuntu 8.04 hardy. The package from 8.10 intrepid might also work well. After the "new" old gzip package is installed the, care must be taken when doing updates since the system now wants to update gzip the latest version.
