Bug Description

The empathy chat window automatically converts emoticons like `:((' to an image for `:(' and a trailing parenthesis. This creates a frankenstein emoticon that is half png and half ASCII.

Ryan, what do you expect empathy to do?

I would expect the emoticon matcher to leave something strange to it like `:((' as text, rather than change its meaning by interpreting half of it.

Ryan , Which expression does emoticon `:((' refer to?
Not sure what the bug here is about.
Or are you saying that it should omit the trailing parenthesis, since it might be user error?
