Bug Description
Binary package hint: skype
In Ubuntu 10.04 with skype 2.1.0.81 installed the incoming call sound and the test sound volumes are too low to hear even with sound volume set to maximum in sound applet. When calling someone, Ringing is loud enough, and voice quality is good too. The problem is that I never hear the incoming call sound.

I have what I believe is a related problem in Maverick xubuntu.
My incoming call alert cannot be heard while everything else can.
I think this is because skype uses some system-wide alert sound system to play the sound, which you can apparently change in the Ubuntu alert sound settings (http:// ubuntuforums. org/showthread. php?t=1531112). Anyone know what's going on here?
Unfortunately I am using Xubuntu, which has no system wide alert sounds, or at least I can't find them. I don't know what to do with that, do I file this bug against xubuntu in some way aswell?
A hackey work-around is to set, in skype options --> Notifications --> Incoming Call Ringing --> Advanced View --> Execute the following script (bottom one) and add something like: skype/sounds/ CallRingingIn. wav', which will play it normally
'aplay /usr/share/
(you might need to install the alsa-utils package)
