Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Release: Lucid (10.04)

Expect: three folders (Personal, Location Indenpendence & Research) & one additional site in my bookmarks toolbar. Navigation/Bookmark menu shows folders as per normal.

Found: Two folders only (Personal & Location Independence) and navigation/bookmarks menu as normal.

Yesterday, I was saving a lot of sites. I don't know at what stage I realised I was missing a folder but after I realised I could not save to the toolbar without getting an error. Today, I'm not getting the error. Added a new site to the toolbar to test. It saves but I cannot move it close to the folders.

If I attempt to right click Open All in Tabs it opens the one additional site (TED), which cannot be seen. Incidentally, if I click close to but not on the Random Facts site it will open.

After this, I checked Xmarks log and couldn't spot a problem. Attempted a restore to yesterday morning (before the problems) and it hasn't solved it. After the restore it synced the old with the new so I don't think it did anything because I still have all the sites I saved yesterday and now I can see the additional TED site on the toolbar, the extra one I added to test (google random facts search) but still no Research folder.

Ideas of what I can do?
Thanks in advance,
Caron Margarete.

FYI:
After logging the bug I deleted the random facts site from the toolbar.
Later I rebooted my computer and have noticed that the Research folder is still missing and now the TED site is missing too.

Just booted up to find it's fixed. I sure didn't do anything so whatever happened, or whatever you did, I'm very very grateful. Thank you.

Here's hoping it's not just a funky luck... :D

It's not fixed. The additional folder is gone again. It was there yesterday. I didn't do an update of any kind the last time either so I'm not sure why it reappeared and has now gone again.

Ideas?

Sorry for the long delay between communication. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If a new profile helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one.
To disable extensions, Tools > Add-ons > Find the extension >
Highlight and click 'Disable' > Restart Firefox

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

Although I didn't try the fix recommended, mostly because the problems seems to have fixed itself again through an update, it is worth mentioning that there was insufficient information in the fix to know exactly what to do. If help is to be given it is very important to remember that the users need to know step-by-step how to do what is recommended.
In any case, I have many thanks for the help given.
