Hello,

dpkg --root=/media/hda5 -l
should display the list of packages of the other debian installation
mounted at the given path

but instead it uses the package database of the installation it is
currently running in

The bug seems to be that dpkg-query isn't passed --admindir. (I wonder why dpkg-query was invented and will have to read the changelog to find out ...)

This was fixed by Debian in 1.13.18 and is in Ubuntu edgy.
