This sounds like an XVideo driver issue to me. But without any crash dump, this bug cannot be investigated.

Please change the VLC video output to "X11" in the preferences and retry

Dear Rémi,

I've changed the video output to "X11" and files .mov works fine.

Some problem with .avi files, which can be played, but colors are
inverted.

Thanks a lot, at the moment.

Complete system crash must be due to buggy XVideo driver then.
