Bug Description

Since gutsy I've had
   Option "BusType" "PCI"
in my xorg.conf, because my X would otherwise freeze in minutes.

Now, after updating to lucid, the freeze was fixed, but fonts would corrupt. Sometimes a glyph would turn into something resembling a pause-symbol (play/pause double bar). Sometimes the glyph would just disappear and turn to white space. And some colours changed, e.g. everything written in black could turn bright green. OpenGL was also affected, Emilia Pinball would be dark and garbled.

Then I found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting After disabling KMS with
   options radeon modeset=0
in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf I had the freeze issue again, and some (but not all) corruption problems got fixed.

It seems that wrong AGPmode was the reason for all these problems, here is the information asked in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks

Hi Jere,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 591963

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Now testing with kernel 2.6.34.999 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/2010-05-31-lucid/
I hope thats what you needed. The pause symbol bars might be narrower than what I saw before, but otherwise nothing has changed. I also tried 2.6.34.996 from drm-next/ it had no pause symbols but had dissappearing glyphs.

That apport report was from the 2.6.34.999

I had a lot of problems with this Maverick live cd. But finally got to the desktop.

Corruption bugs are at least as bad as in the other versions. Though I haven't yet seen the missing glyphs. And pause symbols are one bar only.
