Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer
After upgrading to Maverick, gnome-mplayer doesn't work properly anymore. When using XV for video output, the video is just black, but I can still here the audio playing in the background. Also, when us GL output, the video is partially transparent; I can see windows and icons that are beneath the gnome-mlayer window. This struck me as very odd. If I drop from compiz into metacity, the GL Video is normal again (although it seems to have a good deal of tearing), but XV still shows only black.
I don't think this is caused by mplayer, because calling mplayer from commandline renders properly with both XV and GL.

This is likely to be a video driver issue, can you check what happens with mplayer alone and/or any other media-player?
