Looks like your /etc/default/tftpd-hpa contains errors. Could you attach it to this bug ?
It should look like:

# /etc/default/tftpd-hpa

TFTP_USERNAME="tftp"
TFTP_DIRECTORY="/var/lib/tftpboot"
TFTP_ADDRESS="0.0.0.0:69"
TFTP_OPTIONS="--secure"

Changed in tftp-hpa (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

@diffusr This potential bug is currently blocked on your providing the output of /etc/default/tftpd-hpa. If you can provide this, we can get this bug moving.. If you no longer have access to this file, and update would be greatly appreciated - so we know not to look out for it.

Thanks again.

I have this same issue. I installed tftp-hpa and then removed it, using Synaptic Package Manger in Mint 9.0. I then find now I can't install any other programmes and Update Manager won't proceed because of this error:

E: tftpd-hpa: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 127

Details shows:

(Reading database ... 174866 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing tftpd-hpa ...
/etc/default/tftpd-hpa: 8: -s: not found
dpkg: error processing tftpd-hpa (--remove):
 subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 127
Processing triggers for ureadahead ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tftpd-hpa
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:

I have tried many different suggestions such as running apt-get clea, remove, upgrade install -f, dist-upgrade. Also reinstalling, installing an old version, newer version etc. Nothing works and I can't update my ststem any longer or install new programmes.

What other information can I provide that will help get this resolved as soon as possible?

I see above that you want the output of /etc/default/tftp-hpa. I presume I just run this in terminal. Here are my results:

/etc/default/tftpd-hpa
bash: /etc/default/tftpd-hpa: Permission denied
badcam@xxxx ~ $ sudo /etc/default/tftpd-hpa
[sudo] password for badcam:
sudo: /etc/default/tftpd-hpa: command not found
badcam@xxxx ~ $

I hope this helps.
