Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Have the following problem, and it only happened recently after some of the kernel headers upgrades:

I have a shared NAS. When I go to Places --> Connect To Server

Service Type: FTP (with login)

Provided all the relevant optional information and I have even a bookmark.

I can successfully upload directory/sub-directory structures.

When I try to copy directory/subdirectory structure to my /home/<name>/Desktop, after the first or second file nautilius copy locks (about 330k or on another folder after about 1.5MB). If I click on the 'X' button...nothing happens..The button grays out, but the process runs in the background. The total size is very negligent - about 3MB and consists of 5 files. I do all of this within the nautilius. I just drag the folder to my Desktop.

This only happens with FTP connection.

I tried exactly the same process using SSH and Samba and it works great with no problems at all. This is 64-bit

does the whole nautilus lock or just the progress dialog?

Just the progress dialog. I can open another window and navigate thru. That is how I got the 2 download streams in the attached jpg.

In both cases, it gets certain number of files and then stalls. If I try to go inside the folder and download the files only with no folders (just files), everything works great. Downloads all files without any problems.

Exactly the same thing here:

Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
64 bit release.

Uploading files to my NAS (LinkStation Live 1.5TB) works fine, but downloading them stalls after a few MB. This only happens when using FTP. Samba works fine. Browsing the folder structure on my NAS works fine. Behaviour is the same as OP, attempting to close the copy dialogue doesn't work, button greys out and process runs in the background.

Any ideas on how to correct?

Same problem here.

Uploading to Synology NAS from any of my laptops works ok. The problem is with downloading from the NAS.

I can download (drag and drop) single files or groups of single files OK, but when I try to transfer a folder the process starts and then halts after a few megabytes. Trying to close the copy dialogue just greys the close button without stopping the process.

The problem started after updating using Update Manager (a few updates ago so I'm unsure when exactly)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of Nautilus is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

I confirm this bug for Ubuntu 10.10 (32 and 64 bit) not only for NAS but in general. Copy operation will freeze whenever you try to copy a folder with sub-folders from an FTP-Server to your local harddisk.

Hi all,
Sorry no-one got back to you on this. This problem should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Natty Narwhal. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
