Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

This bug is on Maverick but i am unable to use Maverick i filed it using Lucid.

After kernel selection the monitor shuts off with the message "Monitor will shut down in 5sec" or something close to that if not exactly. it is the same message if the monitor was left on when shutting down PC.
Not sure if it is the kernel, Plymouth or the nouveau drivers. This is using the daily ISO from 06/4/2010. I have tried upgrading as well and i am unable to use Maverick for same reason. The last time i upgraded was 06/06/2010.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download and burn daily alternative image from 06/04/2010
2. Install
3. Reboot to finish installation
4. Choose Maverick kernel from Grub2
5. Find the monitor message

What i expect to happen:
After reboot I should be able to boot into at the very least end up into TTY or low graphics mode

I have to Nvidia cards and i tried both. I have Nvidia 6200 that i use all the time, and a 5200 that i use when 6200 fails like in this bug. I use Apport so you get at least some system Info. If you need further Info please ask and i will attempt to get it.

Could you please re-test this in a couple of days? There are a bunch of new packages in Maverick which may fix this: the 2.6.35 kernel, Xserver 1.8, and the new xserver-xorg-video-nouveau.

Thanks!

Chris i am aware of the X changes coming up. upgrading worked just none of the non-free drivers would so i used upstreams but yes through out the next month or so i will be reinstalling/upgrading as i do monthly during dev cycles.
I will start my scripts to get daily ISO's and see what happens.

Ok after upgrade to Maverick again (i have upgraded and installed a bunch of times) In Maverick at this time none of the Nvidia drivers work, i am dropped to low graphics mode.
I tried the 173 and nvidia-current the drivers offered in Jockey and neither work on my 6200
i will run apport-collect to see if any other logs will be shown since i have been testing after this bug report was filed.

I am closing this bug. After a 3rd upgrade from Lucid, this doesn't seem to be an issue. I am unable to test with one of the daily images as there seems to be an issue with them (alternate images are not on site every other day) i don't know the exact time frame or they are bigger than they should. Once the alt. images are working again or in a month i will test again.
