Bug Description

Due to an incorrect merge (bug 587424), libavutil-extra-49 in maverick is an empty package. The fixed version also had its soname bumped, so libavutil-extra-50 is fine, but there are still 61 binary packages from 50 source packages that depend on libavutil49 | libavutil-extra-49, and it will be a long time before they all get rebuilt.

Please remove libavutil-extra-49 from maverick. This will force those dependencies to be satisfied by libavutil49, and avoid linker errors from missing libavutil.so.49.

This will also prevent something like devede from being installed and thereby breaking other apps that depend on libavutil49
(devede is incorrectly configured to only use the extra version

FYI: this is a normal NBS job, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NBS for more information.

the fact that libavutil-extra-49 is broken is unfortunate. the correct fix is to rebuild all packages listed here: http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/NBS/libavutil49

But we don’t need to wait for all the libavutil49 rdeps to be rebuilt before removing libavutil-extra-49. Those dependencies can be satisfied by libavutil49 instead. Since maverick’s libavutil-extra-49 is completely broken—it is literally an empty package except for /usr/share/doc—libavutil49 is the _only_ package that can legitimately satisfy those dependencies. This is why I suggest libavutil-extra-49 should be removed now, rather than waiting for the automatic NBS process.

(If we don’t want to remove the package entirely, an alternate solution would be to replace maverick’s libavutil-extra-49 with the binary package from lucid.)
