stats dir doesn't exist

is this a bug?

I've been creating var/stats by hand in my customer's karl copies to fix.
Should buildout or other process be able to create var/stats directory if it doesn't exist instead of me by hand?

I get general error when trying to go to admin control panel if I don't make this dir by hand.

here's part of the error message:

 csv_files = [fn for fn in os.listdir(statistics_folder)
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/opt/karl/ariadne/karl3/etc/../var/stats'
