Bug Description

Current Ubuntu Alsa version is almost 6 months old. The new one adds various bug fixes and includes support for diverse piece of hardware (including mine :-)).

I think this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137) popularity should be taken into account to justify my request.

A better system would be to have a ppa that builds the alsa packages for all 'reasonable' ubuntu releases.

Im using Lucid.
Alsa is at least 6 months out of date & does not work on my Compaq CQ42 Latop using the Intel sound chip.
The only way to get the updated 1.0.23 Alsa is to butcher my sysem or install the highly unstable alpha Meerkat (yuck).
Pleeeeaaassseee backport the latest stable ALSA 1.0.23 or provide a way for mere mortals to package it themselves...

we need additional information:

1) What are the build results?
2) What changes are needed to the source, if any?
3) Does it install and upgrade properly?
4) Does it function properly once installed?

If you need assistance, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports is full of great information.

And actually, this sounds more like an SRU, which should be seriously considered if it is this widespread of an issue.

I support this request. 1.0.23 fixes many bugs. I've built 1.0.23 many times on lucid. No compilation problems. No installation problems. Functions properly. I assume many of us would be pleased to get a backport.

I just came across this bug and can say that alsa compiles fine on lucid after only changing the debian/changelog.
