Bug Description

In current Maverick and mainline kernels, CONFIG_EARLY_PRINTK_DBGP is unset, preventing debugging boot and/or runtime issues where no legacy serial console is available (eg laptops, legacy free motherboards etc). Since legacy serial has had it's day, this is becoming a more universal way to debug as it requires no additional hardware.

Since CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_DEBUG is already set, the additional code for using this as the USB serial debug mechanism as a console is small, thus the real-world impact is zero. Note that EARLY_PRINTK_DBGP is needed for the non-'early' console.

Please enable in mainline and Ubuntu Maverick kernels.

I'm declining to enable this option since I do not believe it should be in a production kernel, particularly in light of the comments in the Kconfig description, e.g., "For normal operation it is not recommended because it looks ugly and doesn't cooperate with klogd/syslogd or the X server. You should normally N here, unless you want to debug such a crash. You need usb debug device."
