speech-dispatch consumes 100% of cpu

WORKAROUND:
Turn speech off in mumble. User might have to kill speech-dispatcher after starting mumble. This can be done using System Monitor.

May I ask what you are running? You likely started something that uses speech-dispatcher, and something has happened along the way that has caused speech-dispatcher to lock up/misbehave.

I imagine that mumble started speech dispatcher.

That sounds about right. Does mumble allow you to turn speech off? If so, doing so is a deacent work-around.

Mumble does allow me to turn speech off, but it starts up
speech-dispatch anyway when it starts. For now, I'm just killing
speech-dispatch after I start mumble, although speech-dispatch doesn't
always consume all the cpu time.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Natty Narwhal.
