Bug Description

RELEASE: Maverick Meerkat
CD/DVD VARIANT: Xubuntu alternate image, 32bit and 64bit
ISO BUILD: maverick-alternate-i386.iso dated 2010-06-01.1

SYMPTOMS:
Installed maverick using maverick-alternate-i386.iso dated 2010-06-01.1. After the installation, I restarted the computer. Upon logging in, there are flashing windows in the center of the desktop, about the size of a normal icon. The windows that are flashing are jockey, network-manager, and gnome-volume-control. These are not listed in Applications -> System -> System Monitor that I could find them. The resources used by these windows is so high, on my 1.5GHz, 1GB ram system, I could not use any applications. The shutdown button takes approximately 1 minute to activate on screen. Unfortunately, most keypresses are ignored because of these applications. The desktop is basically unusable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Install Xubuntu maverick using the alternate image
    2. reboot after installation into the desktop
        a. If on hardware, the flashing windows begin as soon as the background appears.
        b. If on VirualBox, the flashing windows will appear, but may disappear after several minutes.
    3. I attempted to report this with "ubuntu-bug", but the windows prevent the terminal from accepting the full input.

This appears to continue to grow as long as the system is allowed to run.
